Memory of the Star FAQs

What Is “Memory of the Star”?

Memory of the Star is best described as an online newspaper staffed by Dylan Greene. Articles written will categorized in accordance to standard newspaper and news story formats.

What Topics are Covered?

Memory of the Star uses the format of local newspapers, meaning subject matters will be broad enough to be relatable to a lay audience.

However, notable subjects that will be covered will be: politics, society and culture, technology, and business. Some more niche subjects will include video games, tabletop games, the internet and the culture within it, and issues that relate to college students in particular.

Topics will be organized by tag, as to make them more visible on WordPress’s search function. I categorize my writing by the format I write them in. Some are known largely by other journalists, but others are familiar to lay readers (editorials/opinions).

Do you Write Opinion Pieces?

Yes, though they are designated as such as to separate them from other sections of the news. I will be writing editorials and advice columns.

Why is the Blog Called “Memory of the Star”?

During the E3 2015 Sony Expo, Square-Enix revealed a trailer for an upcoming game. That game was the Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Final Fantasy VII was instrumental in my gaming experiences as a child. For many years, I had hoped for a remake, and now it will be made real.

But what my caught my interest, aside from the visuals, was the narration along with it.

Long ago, we looked upon a foreboding sky. The memory of the star that threatened all burns eternal in our hearts. In its wake came an age of silence. Yet with each fond remembrance, we knew those encountered were not forgotten, that some day we would see them again. Perhaps it was no more than wishful thinking. But after the long calm, there are the beginnings of a stir. The reunion at hand may bring joy, it may bring fear, but let us embrace whatever it brings. For they are coming back. At last the promise has been made.

That particular reference, the memory of the star that threatened all, resonated with me. That line is a reference to the game’s villain, Sephiroth, casting the spell known as “Meteor”. The climax of the game involves trying to stop this calamity from occurring. I remember vividly the image of Meteor imposing itself into the sky.

As a tribute to the game, I decided to name the blog after that snippet of narration.
